Allkins scores 3 as Dryden goes up 3-0 on Fort Frances

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Superior International Junior Hockey League most valuable player Braden Allkins notched a hat trick while Colton Sandboe dished out three assists as the Dryden GM Ice Dogs defeated the Fort Frances Lakers 5-1 Saturday in Game 3 of their semifinal series at Ice for Kids Arena.

Dryden now leads the best-of-seven set 3-0 heading into Game 4 Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. back in Fort Frances.

The GM Ice Dogs set the tone in the first with a pair of Allkins’ markers to put the visitors up 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Fort Frances captain Dylan Kooner got one back for the Lakers 38 seconds into the middle session to put his side on the board.

However Dryden answered with the first playoff marker from Cory Dennis seven minutes later to restore the two-tally cushion.

Braedyn Aubin then notched his initial goal of the postseason to put the GM Ice Dogs up by three after two.

Action in the third saw Allkins finish off his three-goal night as Sandboe fed a pass over Noseworthy at the left point, who fired a shot towards the net that was jammed in by the sprawling Dryden forward to round out the night’s scoring.

Patrick Zubick registered the win for the GM Ice Dogs while Brandon Bodnar suffered the loss for the Lakers.
