Dryden rolls over Fort Frances with 7-1 win in Game 2

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs stormed out to a three-goal lead before the contest was nine minutes old and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 7-1 Thursday in Game 2 of their Superior International Junior Hockey League semifinal series at Memorial Arena.

Dryden now leads the best-of-seven affair 2-0 heading into Game 3 Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Ice for Kids Arena in Fort Frances.

The GM Ice Dogs set the tone early by notching tallies just over a minute and a half apart from Trey Palmermo and Chris Atanas to go up 2-0.

They then spelled a quick exit for Lakers’ starter Brandon Bodnar at 8:48 when Jake Gushue collected his second marker in as many days.

Fort Frances got one back from Brandon Zajicek, via the power play, at 14:21 to get on the board.

However the home side countered with a man advantage effort of their own two and half minutes later thanks to Jacen Bracko, who beat Jessie Heisz for his first SIJHL playoff tally.

Dryden broke it open with a trio of tallies in the second stanza from Woody Galbraith, Kris Hamlin and Cody Wardner to take complete control.

The two teams then tightened up defensively the rest of the way as there was no further goal scoring on the night.

Patrick Zubick made 20 saves to register his second consecutive win in the series.

Bodnar suffered the loss allowing three against on six chances while Heisz handled 28 of 32 in a long relief stint.

All SIJHL playoff games will be streamed live online at HockeyTV.com.
