Kooner scores 4 as Fort Frances dumps Minnesota

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Looking to get a boost to help return to the win column, Fort Frances Lakers captain Dylan Kooner did just that as he scored four times to lead his club to a 8-1 triumph over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Friday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ice for Kids Arena.

It was a tight-checking opening 20 minutes that went scoreless with Ryan Wagner making 10 saves in the Fort Frances net while Minnesota goaltender Jackson Nelson handled all 11 attempts he faced.

Kooner kicked things off offensively for the Lakers with a man advantage marker at 3:54 of the second only to see Logan Froberg counter for the Iron Rangers, at even strength, just over two minutes later.

Fort Frances took over from there however striking twice more in the session on efforts by Julian Uhryniuk and Kooner to make it 3-1 after two.

The Lakers then blew it open in the third tacking on four more to win going away.

After Kooner reached his hat trick 86 seconds into the third, Oliver Alcock got into the act at 3:25.

Kooner added his fourth of the night at 12:38 while teammates Jack Bernie and Tyler Malpass rounded things out offensively for the winner.

Jared Virtanen dished out three assists to extend a consecutive game point streak to nine in the process.

The Lakers outshot the Iron Rangers 47-30 with Wagner picking up the win and Nelson the loss.
