Lakers get goals from 8 different players in win over Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Fort Frances Lakers used a well-balanced attack getting goals from eight different players in an 8-2 triumph over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Wednesday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Fort Frances came out fast in the contest grabbing a 3-0 lead before the contest was 13 minutes old on markers from Austin Petrie and Dylan Kooner at even strength and Matt Tustin via the power play.

Minnesota got one back before the first was complete thanks to a man advantage effort from Jack Stensgard at 16:53.

It was more Lakers in the middle stanza as they once again outscored the Iron Rangers 3-1 in the period to go up 6-2.

Ian Jarvis, Tyler Malpass and Dawson Waddell were the Fort Frances marksmen in the frame while Isaiah Olschewske connected on the power play for Minnesota at 19:43.

The visitors would put the game away in the final frame on tallies Dominick Allan’s first SIJHL goal and Jared Virtanen’s 11th.

Virtanen also added an assist to extend a consecutive game point streak to 15 in a row.

Ryan Gazich dished out a trio of helpers for the Lakers and Jaden Gustafson had a pair.

Brandon Bodnar made 28 saves to record the win for Fort Frances.

Sean Angle started for Minnesota and suffered the loss allowing five against on 18 attempts while Jackson Nelson stopped 14 of 17 in relief.
