Lakers’ Virtanen named SIJHL – CCM Hockey performer of the month for December
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Fort Frances Lakers forward Jared Virtanen has been named its CCM Hockey performer of the month for December.
In seven games played during the final month of 2016, the 20-year-old Abbotsford, B.C., product recorded points in each of them, amassing 20 in total on three goals and 17 assists.
Virtanen currently leads the Lakers and sits second overall in SIJHL scoring with 42 points on 10 tallies and 32 assists in just 22 outings and leads the league in point-per-game average at 1.91.
He has also presently riding a 12-game point streak and has been held off the scoresheet just once so far this season with Fort Frances.
Also earning consideration for the SIJHL’s CCM Hockey performer of the month award was Braeden Allkins, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Ryan Walsh, (D) Thunder Bay North Stars; Ryan Buttazzoni, (G) Thief River Falls Norskies; Sidney Gladue, (F) English River Miners and Isaiah Olschewske, (D) Minnesota Iron Rangers.
