Lakers downed by the Wilderness 2-0


The SIJHL saw it's two top teams go head to head for some important points tonight. The Lakers sitting 9 points behind the Wilderness could close the gap to 7 with a win but would fall 11 points behind with a loss. The game's first two periods were scoreless. But at 13:41 Jordan Shockley gave the Wilderness the games first goal and what would turn out to be the winner.

The Lakers battled hard but just couldn't put one past the Wilderness goal tender Tanner Milliron who stopped all 23 Laker shots in the game. The Wilderness would ice the game at 19:06 of the 3rd period on an empty net goal by Shane Topf.

Laker netminder Tyler Ampe was very busy stopping 39 of 40 Wisconsin shots picking up 3rd star of the game for his effort.

The Lakers will try to re-group as they head down the road to face the Duluth Clydesdales at 6pm tomorrow, Sunday January 15th, 2012.

Wisconsin win streak reaches 16, Dryden also victorious Saturday

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – One of the hottest teams in all of junior hockey continued their winning ways Saturday as the red-hot Wisconsin Wilderness won their 16th straight game as they defeated the Fort Frances Lakers 2-0 in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Northwest Sports Complex.

Meanwhile the lone other game on the SIJHL slate saw the Dryden Ice Dogs hand the Sioux Lookout Flyers their ninth consecutive loss as they skated to 4-3 triumph on home ice.

WISCONSIN WILDERNESS 2 FORT FRANCES LAKERS 0 – A Jordan Shockley power play goal with 6:19 remaining was the difference maker as the front-running Wilderness reeled off victory No. 16 in succession improving their overall record to 33-3-1.

Shane Topf added some insurance the final minute scoring into the empty net to round out the scoring.

Tanner Milliron turned aside all 23 shots he faced to register his league-leading fifth shutout in picking up the win for Wisconsin.

Tyler Ampe was peppered with 40 pucks in a losing cause for Fort Frances, who saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end as they dipped to 26-9-4 on the campaign.
