Lakers 4 Dryden 6
Lakers were in Dryden to play the Ice Dogs tonight. The Ice Dogs Daniel Morin didn't waste any time getting the Dogs on the scoreboard putting a power play goal past Tyler Ampe only 23 seconds into the game. Jesse Linner was credited with an assist on the goal. The Dogs kept up the pressure again scoring on the power play at 14:36. Tom Kuhn's 4th goal of the season put the Ice Dogs up by 2-0. Ryan Lobreau and Ian Schatchte picked up assists. The Lakers Bryan Broders would cut the lead in half at 10:25 picking up an unassisted marker. At 8:47 of the opening period Chris Belhumer would restore the two goal lead for the Ice Dogs. Bryce Maggrah and Tom Kuhn were credited with assists on the goal. At 5:22 of the first Lakers Jordan Christianson scored on the power play after taking a Byron Katapaytuk and Ryan Wildman set up pass and putting it past the Ice Dogs netminder making it 3-2 Ice Dogs at the first intermission.
In the second period the Ice Dogs Tyler Newsome would again restore a two goal lead at 13:04. Austin Lewis and Thomas Greene assisted on the goal. The score remained 4-2 until 4:11 of the second when Byron Katapaytuk scored his 25th goal of the season. The Lakers Brandon Fehd picked up an a assist. The Lakers would then tie the game with 2:42 remaining in the second. This time Davis Smith would put the puck past Dean Shepherdson in the Ice Dogs net. Jon Carlson was given an assist on the goal notting the score a 4-4 going into the third period.
The last period saw the Ice Dogs again restore a two goal lead. Diego Breckenridge scored a pair of goals. The first at 14:54 with Ryan Lobreau and Jesse Linner getting assists. His second goal came at 11:05 with Ian Schatchte getting the only assist giving the Ice Dogs a 6-4 lead.
The Lakers put the pressure on in the final minutes but couldn't solve Shepherdson who faced 30 shots making 26 saves in picking up the Ice Dog victory. The Lakers Tyler Ampe faced 27 shots, making 21 saves in the loss. The Lakers now sit with a 27-10-4 record in second place in the SIJHL standings.
The Lakers next head to Duluth for the SIJHL showcase where they will face the Thunder Bay North Stars on Saturday January 21st at 11am and The Duluth Clydesdales on Sunday January 22nd at 6pm. Both games will be held at the Duluth Heritage Arena.

Ice Dogs move into 3rd with Wednesday win
DRYDEN, Ont. – A pair of Diego Breckenridge third period tallies proved to be the difference as the Dryden Ice Dogs defeated the Fort Frances Lakers 6-4 Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Arena.
The home side jumped out to an early 2-0 lead courtesy of goals by Daniel Morin and Tom Kuhn.
After Bryan Broders cut the deficit to one at 9:35 of the session, Tyson Holder restored Dryden’s cushion two minutes later.
Before the period was complete, a Jordan Christianson power play effort brought the Lakers back to within a goal.
After Tyler Newsome made it 4-2 Dryden, Fort Frances answered back courtesy of Byron Katapaytuk and Davis Smith to knot the proceedings heading into the final frame.
In the third stanza Breckenridge potted the eventual game-winner at 5:06 and then added some insurance four minutes later to round out the scoring.
Dean Shepherdson picked up the victory while making 26 saves. Tyler Ampe faced 27 shots in a losing cause.
With the win the Ice Dogs moved into third place in the SIJHL standings with 45 points, two ahead of Thunder Bay, who do hold three games in hand.
Fort Frances fell to 27-10-4 in the setback.
SIJHL play continues Thursday as the front running Wisconsin Wilderness look to extend their 16-game winning streak when they take on the Iron Range Ironheads in Hoyt Lakes, Minn. Game time is 8 p.m.
