SIJHL Showcase: Day 2 recap

DULUTH, Minn. – Day 2 action of the Superior International Junior Hockey League Showcase saw the Fort Frances Lakers, Wisconsin Wilderness and host Duluth Clydesdales all post victories at the Heritage Sports Center.

FORT FRANCES LAKERS 3 THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS 2—A Connor Hady power play marker with 7:19 remaining proved to be the difference as Fort Frances edged Thunder Bay.

The man advantage allowed the Lakers to open the scoring at 15:46 of the first period as Ryan Wildman notched his 15th of the season.

Following a scoreless middle session, Thunder Bay struck quickly to begin the final frame with Quinn Rempel doing the damage at the 24-second mark.

Two minutes later Brennen Dubchak gave the North Stars the lead as he connected on the power play.

Wildman’s second of the game at 8:58 tied it setting the stage for Hady’s game-winner.

Byron Katapaytuk dished out two assists in the win to take over the SIJHL scoring lead with 60 points.

Shots on goal favoured Fort Frances by a 32-30 count with Tyler Ampe registering the victory and Marc Nother suffering the loss.
