SIJHL Showcase: Day 3 recap
DULUTH CLYDESDALES 7 FORT FRANCES LAKERS 4 — The Showcase finale saw Duluth defenceman Troy Olson score twice while his side was shorthanded and add a pair of assists as the Clydesdales surprised second place Fort Frances.
Jordan Larson’s league-leading 30th goal of the season opened the scoring for the Lakers only to see Cody Stettin respond for the Clydes before the period was out.
A wild second stanza saw the two sides combine for seven goals.
Duluth notched the first four coming off the sticks of Stettin, Olson, Bryce Gustafson and Dillon Mershon.
Fort Frances answered back thanks to a pair by Byron Katapaytuk and another by Colton Spicer to make it a 5-4 game after two.
However Duluth would score the only two goals of the final session thanks to Olson and Chris Palm to secure the Clydesdales victory.
Jason Dzurik was the winning goaltender while Tyler Ampe was saddled with the loss.
Duluth went to 16-25-1 in the victory and the Fort dipped to 28-11-4.
SIJHL action resumes Tuesday as Iron Range visits Memorial Arena in Sioux Lookout for a 7:30 p.m. encounter with the Flyers.
