Norskies’ Braaten named SIJHL – Play It Again Sports player of the week
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Thief River Falls Norskies goaltender Kross Braaten has been named the Play It Again Sports player of the week for the period ending Jan. 8.
In two appearances last week Braaten did not allow a goal in regulation or overtime and also went on to register the initial SIJHL shutout in Thief River Falls team history.
The 19-year-old netminder from Minot, N.D., began by turning aside all 16 shots he faced in relief, then went on to stop three of the four attempts he faced in the shootout to backstop the Norskies to a come from behind triumph over English River Saturday in a neutral site contest played in Red Lake Falls, Minn.
Braaten then got the start for Thief River Falls Sunday as they hosted the Miners at Ralph Engelstad Arena and proceeded to make 26 saves along the way to record his club’s first-ever shutout and just the fourth in the league so far this season.
Also earning consideration for Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:
