THUNDER BAY, Ont. – A Keighan Gerrie goal 44 seconds into overtime helped the Thunder Bay North Stars pull out a 4-3 victory over the visiting Fort Frances Lakers Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at the Fort William Gardens.

Thunder Bay picked up the lone marker of the opening 20 minutes as Troy Sherman supplied his fourth tally of the young season.

Fort Frances drew level 8:27 into the second stanza compliments of Cameron Birkeland then went on top just over two minutes later on a Carter Chorney effort.

Action in the latter stages of the frame saw the North Stars’ Brendan Gillis tie it at 16:34 then see his team retake the lead 73 seconds after that as Avery Siau finished off the work of Gerrie and Alex Maticic.

The Lakers connected quickly in the third to knot the affair as Ian Tookenay notched his first before the stanza was a minute old.

It stayed 3-3 through the remainder of regulation and early into overtime before Gerrie won it for Thunder Bay to give them the extra point on the night.

Former Fort Frances netminder Brandon Bodnar picked up the win for the North Stars while Rob Ivy had the OT setback for the Lakers.
