Daman tallies twice as Norskies knock off Lakers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Alec Daman had a pair of goals Friday to help lift the Thief River Falls Norskies to a 4-2 triumph over the Fort Frances Lakers in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest held at Ice for Kids Arena.

Daman put the visitors in front with the lone marker of the first frame at 9:27.

He then upped the Thief River Falls lead six minutes into the second stanza as he finished off a Riley Bergland feed.

Fort Frances cut into the deficit before the session as complete when Isaac Baron picked up his first SIJHL goal at 11:11.

Moving on to the third, Thief River Falls extended their cushion as Berglund connected on the power play at 5:21.

Noah Loveday brought the Lakers back to within one with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.

They then had a glorious chance from in close to equalize, but were denied on a splendid pad save by Bailey Schmitz in the Thief River Falls net.

Countering after Schmitz’s solid stop the Norskies countered quickly with an insurance effort from Bryce Johnson in the slot 56 seconds later as he wristed one from slot to beat Matt Booth and round out the night’s scoring.

Schmitz finished with 27 stops to pick up the win for Thief River Falls while Booth allowed four against on 31 attempts in defeat for Fort Frances.
