FORT FRANCES, ON – The Fort Frances Lakers are pleased to announce the commitment of Gavin Simon to play NCAA DII hockey for the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen in 2025.
The defenseman from Monticello, MN has recorded 4 goals and 17 assists for 21 points in his first SIJHL season. Simon has been a staple on the Lakers blue line, appearing in all 35 games this year.
“Gavin has been a big piece of the puzzle this season in Fort Frances,” said Lakers Head Coach, Tyler Miller. “He came in here as a player who wants to learn, and his attitude and work-ethic are a coach’s dream. He’ll be a great scholar and athlete for their program, and we’re very happy for him.
”Simon plans to study business and finance at SNHU while competing for the Penmen in the NCAA’s Northeast-10 Conference. The Penmen are currently 9-10-1 in conference play this season, and 8-5-1 in non-conference play.
“I picked SNHU because they not only have a beautiful school with good academics, but also a great hockey program,” said Simon. “The coaches there have been great through this whole process, namely their defense coach Matt Osgood – he’s talked with me a lot and given me confidence in their program and the direction they’re headed.”
“We are extremely excited to add Gavin Simon and his family to our hockey program for the next four years,” said SNHU Assistant Coach, Matt Osgood. “Gavin carries himself in a professional manner, he is a stellar athlete, excellent student, and will exceed in everything he does on and off the ice.”
“All of my coaches, teammates, friends and family have helped me so much throughout this process, whether it was helping me develop my game or supporting me doing something I love,” said Simon. “I want to give a special thanks to my teammates and coaches here in Fort Frances. The coaches have done an amazing job helping me be recruited and getting my name out to colleges, and I truly couldn’t do anything without my teammates here pushing me every day to be better.”
