Lakers’ alumnus Debenedet signs pro contract in Europe

FORT FRANCES, Ont. — Former Fort Frances Lakers standout forward Lucas Debenedet, after a successful NCAA collegiate career at Northland College (NCHA), has signed a pro contract in Europe with Meudon Hockey Club in the France 2 League.

In 96 career SIJHL games during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, the International Falls, Minn., product scored 70 times and added 100 assists helping the Lakers win the Bill Salonen Cup as league champions in both years he skated with the club.

“We would like to wish Lucas the best of luck in the next step of his hockey career,” offered Fort Frances head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

“He was an explosive player for our team and moved on to accomplish a great college career,” added Strachan.

“Hard work and being a good person has paid off for him on his journey to reach his goals.”
