Lakers double up Iron Rangers 6-3

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – The Fort Frances Lakers trio of Nick Lucas, Julian Uhryniuk and Carter Chorney picked up three points apiece to help lead their side to a 6-3 victory over the Minnesota Iron Rangers Saturday in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

A couple of early power plays helped Fort Frances get going offensively as Skylar Lentz and Uhryniuk connected during man advantages to put the visitors up by a pair.

Eli Kinsman’s third of the season got one back for Minnesota at 14:21 of the first to trim the deficit.

Second stanza play saw each side score once with Lucas connecting for the Lakers and Zach Hayes matching that for the Iron Rangers.

Lucas then picked up another 6:12 into the third while teammate Jaedin Nesstacked on another 18 seconds later.

A Zac Horn man advantage effort midway through the frame brought Minnesota closer before Ian Tookenay iced it for Fort Frances later in the session to round out the scoring.

Brett Akins made 29 saves to pick up the win for the Lakers.

Jackson Nelson started for the Iron Rangers, but was replaced by Tyler Thompson after the second Fort Frances marker on five shots.

Thompson suffered the setback in relief stopping 26 of 30 along the way.
