Lakers double up Iron Rangers 6-3

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Forward Jaedin Ness tallied twice while goaltender Ismael Ralsten made 29 saves and picked up an assist as the Fort Frances Lakers doubled up the Minnesota Iron Rangers 6-3 Wednesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Fort Frances picked up the lone tally of the first period thanks to Julian Uhryniuk’s seventh of the season just past the seven-minute mark of the opening frame.

The Lakers then tacked on markers courtesy of Jack Bernie and Ness to go up by three, before Mihali See put Minnesota on the board at 16:31 of the second.

Nick Lucas put the visitors up 4-1 early in the third, but an Aaron Kovinen power play goal brought the Iron Rangers back to within a pair.

Ness added his second of the night 80 seconds later to help Fort Frances go up by three.

Minnesota managed another man advantage effort off the stick of Matt Butler with 2:35 to go, but the Lakers’ Adam Withers iced it with a late empty netter to round out the scoring.

Ian Tookenay chipped with two assists for Fort Frances.

While Ralsten picked up the win for the Lakers, Tyler Thompson faced 35 shots in defeat for the Iron Rangers.
