FORT FRANCES, ON – The Fort Frances Lakers are pleased to announce two more player signings for the 2024-25 season. Brothers Gavin and Gunnar Simon of Monticello, MN will join the Lakers this fall.
2004-born Gavin Simon spent the past two seasons with the NA3HL’s Willmar WarHawks. The 6’0, 187-pound defenseman is expected to provide a steady presence on the Lakers blueline.
“Watching video of Gavin, I can see he is committed to defense,” said Lakers Head Coach, Tyler Miller. “He wins races to the puck and makes a good first pass out of the zone. I’m excited to be bringing him in as we need that mentality of defense first, and someone who can win those battles in the defensive zone.”
Younger brother Gunnar Simon comes to the Lakers after an outstanding senior season of Minnesota High School Hockey. The 6’0, 170-pound forward tallied 16 goals and 38 assists for 54 points in 27 games, leading the Monticello Moose to second place finish in the Section 5A boys’ final.
“Gunnar is a power forward who can put the puck in the net with a strong hockey IQ,” said Lakers Head Coach, Tyler Miller. “His work ethic and commitment to the game is where it needs to be and we’re looking forward to having him join us this fall.”
