Norskies sink Lakers

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Thief River Falls Norskies scored twice in each period to defeat the Fort Frances Lakers 6-1 Saturday in their Superior International Junior Hockey League home opener at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Johnny Bennis and Jack Dunnell supplied power play markers around one by the Lakers’ Cameron Birkeland to give the Norskies a 2-1 lead after one.

The home side tacked on two more in the middle stanza to go up by three after 40 minutes as Parker Simonson and Boe Bjorge, with his first SIJHL tally, both found the back of the net.

Christian Larson’s first and Cody Aarvig’s second rounded out the scoring in the third.

Brock Lefebvre made 29 saves to pick-up the win.

Michael Binczyk started for the Lakers and suffered the loss allowing three against on 13 shots while Rob Ivy handled 20 or 23 in 35 minutes of relief.
