North Stars’ netminder Newhouse named SIJHL Play It Again Sports player of the week

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday Thunder Bay North Stars netminder Dougie Newhouse has been named its Play It Again Sports player of the week, for the period ending Nov. 26.

It two starts last week the 18-year-old goalkeeper backstopped his hometown Thunder Bay side to a pair of important home victories.

Newhouse began by making 22 stops in a victory over visiting Fort Frances Friday at the Fort William Gardens.

One night later he turned in a stellar 42-save performance helping his side pull out a narrow 2-1 decision in overtime against the long-time rival Dryden GM Ice Dogs.

For the week Newhouse finished with an 0.97 goals-against average along with a .970 save percentage for arguably his two best appearances since joining the North Stars back in early October.

Also earning consideration for SIJHL Play It Again Sports player of the week honours were the following:

Bailey Schmitz, (G) Thief River Falls Norskies; Evan Walls, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs; Nick Lucas, (F) Fort Frances Lakers & Harrison Bjorgo, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers.

Note: The English River Miners did not play last week, thus did not have a nominee.
