Red Lake rolls over Fort Frances

RED LAKE, Ont. – The Red Lake Miners picked up multiple-point efforts from six different skaters Friday to help them roll over the Fort Frances Lakers 8-2 in a Superior International Junior Hockey League contest at Cochenour Arena.

It was all Red Lake from the onset as they tallied three times in under a seven-minute span in the first period on goals by Michel Di Lullo, shorthanded, along with Kyle Uzelman and Kaidin Hodgson at even strength, with the latter picking up his first SIJHL marker.

The onslaught continued in the second stanza as the Miners tacked on four more markers.

Stratton Pickett had the first two goals before Spencer Milne and Bryce Young supplied singles.

Fort Frances did get one back late in the period from Reece Hopfner to make it 7-1 after two.

Di Lullo added another for Red Lake midway through the third before a Dustin Roitelman man advantage effort at 13:57 rounded out the scoring for the Lakers.

Jun Yi Zhong, Dante Tisi, Young and Uzelman all chipped in with two assists apiece for the Miners.

Zach Willms made 22 saves to record the win for Red Lake.

Jacob Gnidziejko suffered the loss for Fort Frances in his return to the SIJHL allowing six against while Matt Booth gave up two in 25 minutes of relief as they combined to face 37 shots in a losing cause for Fort Frances.

The teams will meet again Saturday back in Red Lake at 7 p.m.
