Red Lake victorious in Fort Frances

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Red Lake Miners erupted by scoring three times before the third period was eight minutes old as they went on to drop the Fort Frances Lakers 5-1 Friday in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ice for Kids Arena.

Action in the opening frame saw Red Lake pick up the lone marker of the session that saw Michael Di Lullo collect his ninth at 4:44.

Newcomer Keegan Tiringer, skating in his first SIJHL game, put the Miners up by two 15:35 into the middle stanza.

Fort Frances did get one back before period was complete when Nick Hahkala answered for the Lakers 56 seconds later.

However, Red Lake came out strong in the third beginning with Bryce Young’s league-leading 20th just 10 seconds in.

The Miners then tacked on two more in rapid succession later on from Shaye Sommerfeld and Morgan Venne to help secure the road victory.

Red Lake goaltender Zach Willms turned in a solid effort for his club as he made 35 saves to earn the triumph for his side.

Jacob Gnidziejko faced 29 shots in a losing cause for Fort Frances.
