Thunder Bay, ON – [July 24, 2025] – The Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) ushers in its 25th Anniversary Season with high expectations and anticipation. The 2025-2026 season will see seven teams compete for the Bill Salonen Cup. The league’s oldest and most decorated franchise, also celebrating their 25th year, Dryden GM Ice Dogs, defending league champions, Kam River Fighting Walleye along with the Fort Frances Lakers, Ironwood Lumberjacks, Red Lake Miners, Sioux Lookout Bombers and the Thunder Bay North Stars will round out the field.
The SIJHL hosted its Annual Governors Meetings on July 15th, 2025. Several important policies and initiatives were in the works and the Board of Governors welcomed the opportunity to further advance the SIJHL as a rising option for players looking for continued growth and advancement to the CHL, NCAA, ACHA and U Sports. The focus of the AGM was on the league’s commitment to athlete-centered development.
The 25th installment of regular season SIJHL Hockey will kick off on September 19th. The Opening Weekend will see all seven teams compete. The Kam River Fighting Walleye will host their home opener against the 2024 Champion Sioux Lookout Bombers on September 20th and see them raise their 2nd Championship banner in the last 3 years. The 4-time League Champion, Dryden GM Ice Dogs will open their campaign for a split road trip to Fort Frances and then a quick jaunt north to take on the Red Lake Miners. The Fort Frances Lakers will open at home hosting Red Lake on Friday and Dryden coming to town on Saturday. The last tilt of the weekend will have the North Stars from Thunder Bay making the trip south of the border to take on the Ironwood Lumberjacks.
SIJHL All-Star Weekend Returning for the 2025-2026 Season
The SIJHL is pleased to announce the return of the All-Star Game.
- The All-Star event is Back! The All-Star festivities are not only something that the fans love, but is a great recognition for the top players and rising stars of the SIJHL. The league will have more details on this event in the coming week.
The SIJHL Board of Governors will be releasing further details regarding scheduling and special events as well as new policies and league initiatives coming out of the AGM meetings and look forward to a great season ahead.
