SIJHL team training camps information

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – With the start of the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s 2017-18 season just six weeks away, the main training camps for each of its respective clubs is rapidly approaching.

The following a breakdown on each team’s upcoming camps along with other related information:

DRYDEN GM ICE DOGS

The reigning SIJHL Bill Salonen Cup champion GM Ice Dogs will open up camp at Dryden’s Memorial Arena on Friday, Sept. 1.

This three-day event will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 3 with a scrimmage.

Not only will the GM Ice Dogs enter the campaign as the defending champs, but they will also host the 2018 Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canadian Jr. A Championship in May.

ENGLISH RIVER MINERS

Looking to build upon the organizations first-ever SIJHL finals appearance last season, English River will take to the ice at Cochenour Arena in Red Lake for their main camp Sept. 6-8.

FORT FRANCES LAKERS

Having recently returned from Hockey Canada’s Summer Showcase in Calgary, Alta., where he served as part of the coaching staffs for the under-17 portion of the event, Fort Frances head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan has once again re-focused his attentions to the Lakers.

Fort Frances opens up camp Aug. 31 and will run through Sept. 2 at Ice for Kids Arena.

Registration is $140.

MINNESOTA IRON RANGERS

Minnesota’s new head coach and general manager Todd Kreibich and assistant coach Garrett Hendrickson held tryout camps in both June and July heading into the main camp, which runs Aug. 28-30 at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Registration is $250.

THIEF RIVER FALLS NORSKIES

Busily gearing up for the second season in the SIJHL, Thief River Falls will be holding another minicamp Aug. 12-13 in Maple Grove, Minn.

Led by general manager Kevin McCallum and head coach Cole Workman will look to build on a successful inaugural campaign in the league.

Details on their main training camp will be released once finalized.

The registration fee for the Maple Grove Minicamp is $250.

THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS

Under new head coach Rob DeGagne, the initial on-ice sessions for the North Stars tryouts have been set with three days of skates set to be held Aug. 18-20 at Current River Arena in Thunder Bay.

Registration for the tryouts is $200.
