SIJHL Weekend Preview – October 29, 30

Thunder Bay, ON
October 29, 2021

SIJHL action resumes today with a slate of games all scheduled north of the border:

Friday October 29

Wisconsin Lumberjacks (3-6-1, 7 pts, 5th Place) at
Dryden GM Ice Dogs (4-5-1, 9 pts, T-3rd Place)

The Lumberjacks make their third consecutive trip across the border, but for the first time not in the Thunder Bay area.  This will be the first meeting of the year between the clubs with the Lumberjacks coming out of a weekend having been swept two games by the Kam River Fighting Walleye.

The Ice Dogs had one game on the schedule last weekend, a 6-1 exhibition victory over the Thunder Bay North Stars in Sioux Lookout as part of that community’s Hockey Day celebrations.

Wisconsin will be looking to get back in the win column, and maintain their place in the middle of the SIJHL standings which is a bit of an early log-jam between Kam River, Dryden and Wisconsin.  Kam River has 3 games in hand.

Dryden will need to add the two points to ensure they try and keep within striking distance of the North Stars and the Red Lake Miners who have separated themselves from the pack at the top of the standings as we near the 20% completion mark of the schedule.

Kam River Fighting Walleye (4-2-1, 9 pts, T3rd Place) at
Fort Frances Lakers (1-6-0, 2 pts, 7th Place

The Lakers will take their revamped roster back into action after securing their first win of the season October 20th against Dryden before an bye weekend last week.

Kam River had a convincing two-game sweep against Wisconsin at home last weekend and will look to continue their winning ways.  Alex Enegren and Jeremy Dunmore led the way last week each with a 4-point weekend  on the strength of 3 goals and 1 assist, Enegren with 3 goals and Dunmore with 2 goals and 2 assists.

Looking ahead to Saturday, October 30, there are 3 games on the schedule:

Wisconsin Lumberjacks at Red Lake Miners, Cochenour Arena, 7:30pm CDT

Kam River Fighting Walleye at Dryden GM Ice Dogs, Dryden Memorial Arena, 7:30pm CDT
