Week 5 Recap

Dryden took two wins from Fort Frances, Thunder Bay swept Kam River, Wisconsin took a pair from Fort Frances, and Red Lake and Sioux Lookout split as week five concluded. The Ice Dogs are on a seven-game tear. The North Stars, after a two-loss start, are on an eight-game winning streak.

Carson Devine of Dryden has 21 points to lead the SIJHL in  production. Tyler Jordan of the Stars has 10 goals and 10 assists, good for number two. Five of the top six scorers are Ice Dogs.

Defenceman Tag Bryson of Thunder Bay is the lone defenceman in the top ten with one goal and 14 helpers.

Kellan Mooney of Dryden leads all goalies in wins (five), save percentage (.946) and goals against average (1.66). Five SIJHL goalies have posted shutouts. Kole Kronstedt of Ironwood has 519 minutes in net so far.

Fort Frances has the SI’s top powerplay at 35.7%. Thunder Bay has a 97.0% penalty kill and a shorthanded goal to make up for the one powerplay goal they have surrendered through 10 games. 

Nine games are on the schedule for week six: two on Tuesday, four on Friday, three on Saturday. The league has completed over one-fifth of the regular season.
