Lakers edge Norskies in OT

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – A Maverick Lynes marker with 40 seconds left in overtime helped the Fort Frances Lakers edge the Thief River Falls Norskies 3-2 Saturday night in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Special teams allowed Fort Frances to notch the lone tally of the opening 20 minutes as Connor Keith collected his first SIJHL goal with a power play effort at 8:45.

After a scoreless second stanza, the Lakers went up by two early in the third compliments of Brandon Zajicek.

Thief River Falls battled back cutting into the deficit midway through the frame thanks to Cameron Jones.

The Norskies then forced extra time as Mitchell Soderberg’s 10th of the campaign tied it at 2-2 with 6:10 to go.

In OT it was Fort Frances who would prevail as Lynes finished off the work of Jared Virtanen and Dylan Kooner to end it.

Dakota Delbridge made 46 saves to pick up the win for the Lakers while Ryan Buttazzoni 34 stops in defeat for the Norskies.
