FORT FRANCES, ON – The Fort Frances Lakers are pleased to announce that forward Gunnar Simon has been named captain for the 2026-27 season.
The forward from Monticello, MN will enter his third season with the Lakers this fall. Simon served as an assistant captain during the 2025-26 season, scoring 28 points in 47 regular-season games played. After falling in overtime to the Thunder Bay North Stars in game 7 of this year’s SIJHL finals, Simon is motivated to help lead the team to a championship.
“The support from the community has been truly amazing, and we owe them next season,” said Simon. “The job isn’t finished, and we’ll be back. The work starts now; We Want Bill!”
“Gunnar has been an excellent ambassador of our program,” said Lakers Head Coach, Luke Judson. “He leads by example on and off the ice, and we will count on him to set the standard of what it means to be a Laker.”
