Lakers’ Antonelli makes NCAA commitment

FORT FRANCES, Ont. — The Fort Frances Lakers of the Superior International Hockey League announced Monday that defenceman Anthony Antonelli has committed to attend school and play NCAA Division III hockey at Becker College in Worcester, Mass.

He’ll be joining a Becker Hawks men’s program that competes out of the eight-school Commonwealth Coast Conference.

The 20-year-old Antonelli is in his second season in the SIJHL with Fort Frances where the Commack, N.Y., native serves as an assistant captain with the club.

In 92 career contests the defensive minded blueliner has produced personal bests in both assists and points in 2018-19 and has produced five goals and 17 assists overall.

“Anthony is very deserving of this opportunity,” stated Fort Frances head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan in making the announcement.

“You are not going to find a player more committed to everything he does, on and off the ice,” added Strachan.

“Because of his work ethic, he has improved his game through the last two years with our program. We are happy to make this announcement and wish Anthony much success in his future endeavours.”
