Lakers earn shootout win over Minnesota Wilderness

Lakers 4 Wilderness 3 – shootout

The Lakers Talor Joseph has had 9 starts since joining the SIJHL Fort Frances Lakers. He is currently 9-0 and the Lakers are enjoying the wave as they helped secure their 2nd place finish tonight heading into the SIJHL playoffs.

The Fort Frances Lakers were in Cloquet Minnesota to take on the SIJHL league leading Minnesota Wilderness tonight. Colton Spicer, Jon Carlson and Jordan Christianson all scored in regulation for the Lakers. Jon Carlson, Jordan Christianson, Owen Stauber and Colton Spicer also picked up assists in the game.

Minnesota’s Jeremy Johnson, Nick McCormack and Dylan Haskins answered for the Wilderness notting the score at 3 a piece after 60 minutes.

Overtime solved nothing so the teams went to the shootout.

The first shooter for Fort Frances was Colton Spicer. Spicer made a nifty little move on Minnesota’s netminder Gordy Defiel and slipped the puck through his legs to give the Lakers the victory. Jordan Christianson and Patrick Sofer were stopped in their shootout attempts.

Talor Joseph faced 51 shots in regulation and stoned all three Wilderness shootout attempts to give the Lakers the win and a huge confidence boost heading into the playoffs.

The Lakers will once again face the Dryden Ice Dogs back at the IFK arena on Saturday March 2nd, 2013. These two teams have seen each other a great deal the past month and if the end of last Tuesday’s game was any indicator this should be a very entertaining and exciting game. Don’t miss it. The puck drops at 7:30 pm.
