Lakers’ Nolan named SIJHL’s most improved player

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Friday that Fort Frances Lakers forward Miles Nolan has been named the SIJHL’s most improved player for the 2014-15 campaign.

Nolan edged out fellow finalists Noah Anderson of the Minnesota Iron Rangers and Brett Wolframe of the Thunder Bay North Stars for the honour.

This marks the third consecutive season a member of the Lakers has earned most improved player laurels under Fort Frances head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.

Mason Meyer captured the award last year while Colton Spicer claimed the honour in 2012-13.

Nolan wrapped up the regular season with 48 points in 54 games on 22 goals and 26 assists.

The 20-year-old Geraldton, Ont., product also led the Lakers in power play markers with 12, which was the third highest total in the entire league.

Nolan easily surpassed the 10 tallies, 18 helpers and 28 points he had last season besting his career season high point total by 20.

He also scored four times and set-up 11 others in 2012-13 for Fort Frances.
