Norskies defeat Lakers on Teddy Bear Toss night

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – The Thief River Falls Norskies got a pair of goals from Dalton Johnson to help them prevail by a 5-2 score over the Fort Frances Lakers in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Fort Frances grabbed a 1-0 lead after one period of play on Maverick Lynes’ fifth of the season at 12:08.

Thief River Falls drew level near the four-minute mark of the second compliments of Parker Simonson’s seventh, which resulted a in a slew of stuffed toys being reigned down onto the ice as part of the Norskies’ first annual Teddy Bear Toss night to support nearby Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Johnson then added his first of the night at 5:28 to put the home side up by one entering the third.

Matt Tustin tied it during a Lakers power play at 6:08 of the final session, but Keaton Huot came right back with the eventual game-winner just 17 seconds later.

Down a man later in the period, Johnson added some insurance with a shorthanded marker at 12:34 before Dylan Dix iced it with an empty netter in the final minute to round out the scoring.

Ryan Buttazzoni made 23 saves and also picked up an assist in the win for Thief River Falls while Jessie Heisz stopped 37 of 41 in a losing cause for Fort Frances.
