Thief River Falls downs Fort Frances

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The Thief River Falls Norskies stormed out to an early four-goal lead and never looked back as they rolled to a 7-1 victory over the Fort Frances Lakers Tuesday night in a Superior International Junior Hockey League match-up at Ice for Kids Arena.

Thief River Falls was all business in the opening 14 minutes of the contest as they got markers from Parker Simonson on the power play, Mitchell Soderberg shorthanded, along with even strength efforts from Aslan Akervik and Logan Jackson to take control.

Jake Eischen’s first tally of the season upped the visitors cushion with the lone goal in the middle frame.

Fort Frances dashed Jackson Nelson’s shutout bid just past the three-minute mark of the third off the stick of Ian Jarvis, but Simonson and Alec Daman connected 34 seconds apart later in the session to wrap things up for the Norskies.

Simonson and Soderberg both had three-point nights while Trevor McLain had a pair of assists.

Nelson made 28 saves to register the victory.

Ismael Ralsten started for the Lakers and suffered the loss giving up four on eight attempts with Brett Akins handling 22 of 25 in lengthy relief.
