2nd straight shutout for Sauer as Norskies blank Lakers

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Caleb Sauer stopped all 29 shots he faced to register his second consecutive Superior International Junior Hockey League shutout as he went on to blank the Fort Frances Lakers 3-0 Friday night at Ice for Kids Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Thief River Falls opened the scoring during a second period power play that resulted in Connor Kalthoff finishing off a two-on-one with teammate Justin Schwartzmiller at 5:29.

The Norskies added another near the midway point of the match-up after Nate Brown’s long pass up from his own zone helped Tyler Johnson split the Fort Frances defence and go in where he slid his 16th of the season past Lakers’ starter Alex Bugeja.

Special teams helped the visitors cap off the road victory in the third as Johnson and Jack Michels worked it around before getting it to Joe Collins up high as he snapped in a man advantage effort with seven and a half minutes to play to round out the scoring.

Bugeja saw 38 attempts fired his way in defeat for Fort Frances.
