Fort Frances blasts Thunder Bay to win 10th straight

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – The red-hot Fort Frances Lakers continue to show they mean business as Superior International Junior Hockey League leaders rolled to their 10th straight win by blasting the second place Thunder Bay North Stars 9-0 Friday evening at Ice for Kids Arena.

Thirteen different Fort Frances skaters picked up points in the romp led by a two-goal, one-assist night from Nolan Ross and and a four-helper effort from Dylan Robertson.

The Lakers grabbed a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers later in the stanza by Miles Nolan and Bryson Jasper.

A Ross power play marker and one by Nick Minerva at even strength before the seven-minute mark of the second put the home side up by four and also spelled the end of the night for Thunder Bay starter Eric Mann’s night in favour of Nathnial Dupuis.

Fort Frances blew the game open in the third striking five times in a 16-minute span to complete the romp.

Wyatt Cota, Dylan Kooner, Ross, Lucas DeBenedet and Sam Schultz added efforts in the final stanza.

Kooner and Mason Meyer both doled out a pair of assists each to aid the Lakers offensive cause.

Nathan Park stopped all 26 shots fired his way to record his first SIJHL shutout.

Fort Frances put 44 pucks on Mann, who suffered the loss, and Dupuis.

With the victory, the Lakers win streak hit double digits as they improved to a league-best 27-7-1 while the North Stars fell to 21-14-4.
