Lakers sink Ice Dogs

FORT FRANCES, Ont. –  Mason Meyer had a pair of goals and an assist to help the Fort Frances Lakers double up the Dryden GM Ice Dogs 6-3 Tuesday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at Ice for Kids Arena.

Each side would find the back of the net twice in the opening 20 minutes with Wyatt Cota and Lucas Debenedet connecting for Fort Frances and Zach Kercz and Blake Berg countering for Dryden.

The Lakers grabbed the lead midway through the contest as Miles Nolan connected on the power play at 9:05 to put the home side in front entering the final frame.

In the third Fort Frances struck three times in a five-minute span to take control as Cota picked up his second of the night while Meyer potted his pair to make it a 6-2 game.

The GM Ice Dogs added a late power play off the stick of Jonathon Philley with two seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

Carter Chorney dished out three assists to add to the Lakers offensive cause while Debenedet added two helpers of his own to go along with his goal.

Dryden held the edge in shots 37-27 with Devin Tappenden picking up the win and Tate Sproxton the loss.
