Robertson & Spicer returning

The Fort Frances Lakers have signed two veteran players to the 2015 – 2016 SIJHL roster. Forwards Dylan Robertson and Colton Spicer are returning to their roster with a total of 73 points between the two 20 year olds.

Robertson heads into the fall of 2015 with 16 goals and 23 assists in 39 regular season games during the 2014 – 2015 SIJHL season. In 11 post – season games, the 6’0” and 160 lbs Ottawa, Ontario native added two goals and three assists for the Lakers.

At the Dudley Hewitt Cup in Fort Frances, Robertson sank three goals and three assists in five games for the home town Lakers.

Dylan returns after being the Lakers’ top leading scorer from last season. In a situation where he wasn’t getting a bunch of ice time, an injury to Spicer moved him up to the top line to see what he could do and he didn’t look back. In his first four games, he didn’t register a point and then versus Thunder Bay he had two highlight real assists and registered a point in the next eight of nine games.

He is reliable defensively and his role grew as the season went on. In the 2015 playoffs he maintained his level of play and saved the best for the Dudley Hewitt Cup. Dylan will be a huge part of our team this season and have a key leadership role in the pursuit of another deep run in the playoffs.

20 year old Fort Frances, Ontario native Colton Spicer is heading into his fifth season with the Lakers. The 6’2” and 180 lbs forward has played 135 games from 2011 – 2015.  In 135 regular season games, Spicer has sunk 68 goals and 56 assists for the team, tallying a total of 198 minutes in penalties.

In 27 play-off games, Spicer has added five goals and six assists in his four seasons in the SIJHL.  At the Dudley Hewitt Cup, Colton appeared in three games in his hometown in the spring of 2015.

Coach Strachan stated that “Colton returns for his fifth season with the Lakers and we are hoping he has saved everything for a big grand finale. He got off to a strong start last season and was leading the league scoring early on in the season.  He went through some ups and downs but in the playoffs came up big scoring many big goals throughout our Bill Salonen Cup run.  Unfortunately his Dudley Hewitt Cup came to an end with an injury.”

“We feel if Colton can come into the season having a summer to get himself in great shape he can be a difference maker for our hockey team through the season. He has the ability to put up big numbers if he keeps focused and works hard throughout the year,” said Strachan.
