Kooner & Park heading to Terriers

The Fort Frances Lakers have moved forward Dylan Kooner and goaltender Nathan Park to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Portage Terriers for the playing rights of Quinn Lenihan and future considerations.

The 6’0” and 181 lbs Abbotsford, British Columbia native played in 56 regular season games for the Lakers in 2014-2015.  In Kooner’s 56 games, the 19 year old had 8 goals and 37 assists and tallied 14 penalty minutes. In 11 post-season games, Dylan added one goal and seven assists.  At the 2015 Dudley Hewitt Cup in Fort Frances, Kooner played in one game.

Edmonton, Alberta goaltender Nathan Park is moving closer to home heading to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to join the Terriers in the fall of 2015.  The 5’11” and 165 lbs goaltender saw action between the pipes for the Lakers for 19 regular season games.  Nathan’s finished the regular season with a goals against average of 1.92 and save percentage of .931. In ten play-off games, Park’s goals against average was 2.65 and a .919 save percentage.

As a 20 year old at the 2015 Dudley Hewitt Cup in Fort Frances, the Edmonton native played in three games for the Lakers before going down with an injury that finished the season.  Park’s 3.26 goals against average and .919 save percentage helped the Lakers to a berth in the championship game against the NOJHL’s Soo Thunderbirds.

Unfortunately, Quinn has chosen not to report to the Lakers in the fall of 2015.  The future considerations will be worked out before the October 1st start of the 2015-2016 SIJHL season.

“Nathan and Dylan both had interest in playing elsewhere for the 2015 – 2016 season and we were honored to grant their wishes. They will both be missed by our Lakers family,” said Coach Strachan.
