Booth earns 1st shutout as Lakers blank Iron Rangers

HOYT LAKES, Minn. – Matt Booth turned aside all 24 shots he faced to record his first Superior International Junior Hockey League shutout Saturday to help the visiting Fort Frances Lakers blank the Minnesota Iron Rangers 5-0 at Hoyt Lakes Arena.

Fort Frances picked up the only marker they would require on this night two and a half minutes into the contest thanks to a Dane Bateman tally.

MacKenzie Flett’s fourth added to the Lakers cushion later in the first period to give them a two-goal cushion after one.

Moving on to the middle frame, Fort Frances tacked on two more to go up by four after 40 minutes with Reece Hopfner notching his first SIJHL marker at 8:28 before teammate Colton Bodnar converted during a man advantage opportunity at 15:58.

The Lakers’ Jake Clendenning then put the game away in the third with his initial league effort to secure the win.

Hopfner and Kirk Coppock both dished out two assists to aid the winner’s cause.

Synjen Amende faced 39 shots in defeat for Minnesota.
